Columbus, Ohio – In a heartwarming act of community service, 11-year-old Micah Suttle plants seeds of hope for families in need in Columbus, Ohio, proving that even the youngest among us can create meaningful change.

Micah, a fifth-grade student, spearheaded a donation drive with his classmates to support families transitioning out of homelessness. With guidance and inspiration from the nonprofit Seeds of Caring, the students collected over 100 essential items — from toiletries to household supplies — along with handwritten cards offering encouragement.

“It was cool getting people involved in community service. I hope they keep doing it,” Micah said.

Seeds of Caring, a Columbus-based organization, teaches young children about social issues and empowers them to serve their communities. Stephanie Christie, the nonprofit’s Director of Development, noted that Micah’s actions reflect the organization’s mission: helping children realize their power to make a difference.

The donated items were delivered to Home for Families, a local nonprofit that assists families in crisis by addressing housing instability, financial literacy, and educational access. The group emphasized the importance of donations like these, which provide more than just shelter—they help turn houses into true homes.

“It warms my heart,” said Home for Families CEO Beth Fetzer-Rice. “Micah is connecting emotion with action. That is what we hope every child and adult will do.”

Micah’s journey does not end here. The young changemaker plans to start a community service club in middle school, proving that kindness and leadership can start at any age.

“Kindness is always the answer,” Micah said. “You just have to keep trying.”
