Family of 5 Hospitalized After West Columbus House Fire

5 people were hospitalized after a fire tore through a home in west Columbus early Monday morning.

Firefighters from the Columbus Division of Fire responded to the 500 block of South Harris Avenue, near Sullivant Avenue in the Central Hilltop neighborhood, just after 5 a.m. Upon arrival, crews reported heavy smoke and visible fire damage coming from the roof of the home.

The four family members managed to escape the blaze, while a child was rescued from inside the house. All five individuals—two adults and three children—were transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from serious to critical.

While the fire caused extensive damage to the interior of the home, crews were able to contain it to the single structure. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities continue to gather information as the investigation progresses.
