The Fort Recovery Museum in Mercer County, Ohio, is bringing back its free “Beyond the Battlefield” program with an expanded schedule designed to connect students and the public directly with historic tribal nations.
As part of the revived program, fourth grade classes from four local schools will visit the museum to interact with citizens and leaders from the Eastern Shawnee, Miami, and Wyandotte tribal nations. The visiting tribal representatives work in historic and cultural preservation within their communities.
In addition to the student visits, a community-wide public day is scheduled for Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fort Recovery Elementary/Middle School. The free event will include social dancing, lacrosse, craft activities, and guided tours of the historic battlefield site.
“Beyond the Battlefield” was created around the museum’s permanent exhibit, “St. Clair’s Defeat Revisited: A New View of the Conflict,” which was developed by Ball State University faculty alongside tribal scholars. The exhibition explores the engagement, known as the most significant defeat of the U.S. military by Native American forces, through the modern perspective of the participating tribes.
The idea to involve fourth grade students came from the Wyandotte Nation, following a similar educational effort at River Raisin National Battlefield Park in Monroe, Michigan. Christine Thompson, a former faculty member at Ball State University who helped design the original exhibit, said visitors will encounter tribal members who are eager to share their culture and modern-day tribal activities.
Organizers previously paused the program for a year after losing grant support. Its return is supported by a grant from the Ohio History Fund. Kim Rammel, site manager for the Fort Recovery Museum, noted that the temporary hiatus gave staff time to reflect and plan for the long-term sustainability of the event.

Madxafka Fort Recovery ee Ohio oo Dib u Soo Celinaya ‘Beyond the Battlefield’
Madxafka Fort Recovery Museum ee ku yaalla Mercer County, Ohio, ayaa dib u soo celinaya barnaamijkiisa bilaashka ah ee loogu magac daray ‘Beyond the Battlefield’, isaga oo sanadkan wata adeegyo iyo fursado waxbarasho oo la ballaariyay si bulshada loogu xiro taariikhda qowmiyadaha asalka loogu yimid dalka Mareykanka.
Barnaamijkan dib loo furay ayaa fursad siinaya ardayda fasalka 4-aad ee afar dugsi oo deegaanka ah, kuwaas oo booqan doona madxafka si ay ula kulmaan madaxda iyo muwaadiniinta qabaa’ilka Eastern Shawnee, Miami, iyo Wyandotte tribal nations. Xubnahan ka socda qabaa’ilka ayaa shaqooyin ku saabsan dhowridda taariikhda iyo dhaqanka ka haya bulshooyinkooda.
Marka laga soo tago booqashooyinka ardayda dugsiyada, waxaa dadweynaha guud loo qaban doonaa maalin gaar ah Oktoobar 24, laga bilaabo 10 subaxnimo ilaa 4 galabnimo, taas oo ka dhici doonta Fort Recovery Elementary/Middle School. Munaasabadda ayaa lagu soo bandhigi doonaa cayaaraha dhaqanka, cayaarta lacrosse, farsamada gacanta, iyo socdaallo taariikheed oo la hagayo oo lagu marayo goobihii dagaalladu ka dhaceen.
Barnaamijka ‘Beyond the Battlefield’ ayaa salka ku haya bandhigga joogtada ah ee madxafka ee loogu magac daray ‘St. Clair’s Defeat Revisited: A New View of the Conflict’. Bandhiggan waxaa si wada-jir ah u diyaariyay macallimiin ka tirsan Ball State University iyo aqoonyahanno ka tirsan qowmiyadaha asalka ah, isaga oo ka tarjumaya guushii ciidammada asalka loogu yimid ay ka gaareen milateriga Mareykanka.
Fikradda ah in ardayda fasalka 4-aad lagu daro barnaamijka ayaa ka timid codsi ay soo jeedisay Wyandotte Nation, kaddib markii tallaabo taa la mid ah hore looga fuliyay beerta taariikhiga ah ee River Raisin National Battlefield Park oo ku taalla Monroe, Michigan. Christine Thompson oo Ball State University horay uga tirsaneyd ayaa sheegtay in dadka booqanaya ay la kulmi doonaan shakhsiyaad aad ugu faraxsan wadaagista dhaqankooda iyo waxyaabaha ay hadda ka qabtaan qowmiyadahooda.
Munaasabaddan ayaa sanadkii hore la hakiyay sababo la xiriira maalgelintii deeqda oo luntay, hase yeeshee sanadkan waxaa suurtageliyay deeq laga helay sanduuqa Ohio History Fund. Kim Rammel oo maamusha madxafka ayaa xustay in hakadkii hore uu fursad u siiyay shaqaalaha inay nastaan isla markaana qorsheeyaan sidii barnaamijkan uu u noqon lahaa mid sii socon kara mustaqbalka.
