Among the 34,287 attendees for Game 1 was 19-year-old Avery Clowes, a Guardians fan from Columbus, Ohio. Clowes noted the significance of the team’s consistent performance for Ohio sports fans. “I think it’s kind of like a thing in Ohio, all of our sports do bad and stuff, so having a team that now we expect to be good is so important,” she stated.

The Guardians secured the American League Central division title this year, finishing one game ahead of the White Sox. Despite this, the Guardians suffered a 3-0 loss in Game 1.

Fans of both teams shared their perspectives. Dave Aldape, a White Sox fan from Florida, acknowledged Cleveland’s strong competitiveness, calling them “probably the top dog in the Central.” However, Ben McGary, a lifelong White Sox fan from Chicago, maintained that “Nobody’s equal to the Sox.”

Retired Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar was also present at the game, receiving an ovation from the crowd. Lifelong Cleveland baseball fan Dustin Rose expressed satisfaction with the team’s consistent performance. “I’m happy that they won the AL Central, and anything they do other than that is bonus time for me,” Rose commented.

Game 2 of the ALDS between the Guardians and White Sox is scheduled for Monday in Cleveland, with the first pitch set for 5 p.m.
