Law enforcement agencies arrested more than 50 fugitives living in government housing during a multi-agency operation in the Columbus area.
“Operation Clean House”: More Than 50 Fugitives Arrested in Government Housing
Law enforcement agencies across central Ohio arrested more than 50 fugitives during a coordinated operation targeting individuals with felony warrants living in government-funded housing.
The six-day initiative, known as “Operation Clean House,” was carried out over a two-week period in the greater Columbus area. The effort was led by the U.S. Marshals Service and included partnerships with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and other local agencies.
Authorities said the goal was to locate and arrest violent fugitives residing in HUD housing, improving safety for residents and surrounding neighborhoods.
“This operation shows what’s possible when agencies work together,” said U.S. Marshal Michael Black of the Southern District of Ohio. “Each arrest makes the community safer.”
According to officials, other arrests during the operation involved individuals wanted on charges including failure to register as a sex offender, strangulation, drug trafficking, child endangerment, and rape. Law enforcement also recovered firearms and illegal drugs during several of the arrests.
Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin said removing violent offenders from subsidized housing benefits both residents and those seeking affordable housing.
“When we take violent felons out of these communities, it makes them safer and ensures housing is available for families who truly need it,” Baldwin said.
HUD deployed approximately 30 agents to Columbus to assist with the mission. Officials confirmed that all arrests were made without any critical incidents.
