Congresswoman Joyce Beatty’s confirms her name was among those targeted by Minnesota shooting suspect

Columbus, Ohio — Ohio Congresswoman Joyce Beatty has confirmed that her name appeared in documents associated with the Minnesota shooting suspect, Vance Boelter, who is charged with the fatal shootings of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as injuring State Senator John Hoffman and his wife.

Federal investigators revealed that Boelter meticulously planned the attack, surveilled victims, and intended to target more officials across multiple states. Authorities say he had a detailed list of names, including Beatty’s, which led her team to enhance security protocols immediately.

In a public statement, Beatty expressed gratitude to the U.S. Capitol Police and the Columbus Police Department for their swift action and emphasized the need for civility in American discourse:

“We must do better in how we engage one another as Americans. Our democracy demands nothing less.”

Boelter was arrested Sunday evening after a massive manhunt. The 57-year-old suspect faces both federal and state charges, including murder, attempted murder, and stalking, and could face the death penalty.

This shocking incident has triggered national attention and highlights the growing concerns about political safety across the U.S., including Ohio.
