Family Remembers 17-Year-Old Cameron Moore Killed in Fourth of July Shooting at Columbus House Party
Columbus, Ohio – A Fourth of July celebration ended in tragedy when 17-year-old Cameron Moore was shot and killed during a party at a short-term rental home in Columbus. The early morning shooting on July 4 also left five others injured. Police have yet to make any arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.
“It is a big shock. We were thinking about his future — not planning a funeral,” shared Laquisa Richardson, Cameron’s cousin.
Richardson recalled receiving a heartbreaking phone call from Moore’s grandmother the morning of the incident, informing her that Cameron had been shot and didn’t survive.
Described by family as laid-back, kind-hearted, and full of life, Cameron had just been looking forward to finishing high school, finding a job, and supporting his loved ones. One of his final plans was a trip to COSI, Columbus’s Center of Science and Industry.
“He asked, ‘When are we going to COSI?’ That was one of the last things he said,” Richardson said. “I’m really going to miss that trip. We never got to go.”
“Cameron is forever 17,” she added. “He had dreams and goals, but he won’t be here to achieve them. I want people to feel that loss.”
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Columbus police as the investigation continues.
