Anthony James Davis Sentenced to 25 Years for Child Rape and Sexual Misconduct in Ohio

Columbus, Ohio – Former girls’ softball coach Anthony James Davis, aged 30, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to child rape and sexual misconduct involving a 12-year-old girl he coached.

Davis, from West Mansfield, was convicted on multiple charges, including two counts of rape, sexual battery, and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, according to court records from the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.

The court issued an indeterminate sentence of 25 to 29 years, with no eligibility for early release due to the severity of his crimes. This marks one of the most serious child sexual misconduct cases in the region in recent years.

Concerns first arose in September 2024 when Davis was seen kissing the girl. By October 8, 2024, a formal report was made to Child Protective Services and the Union County Sheriff’s Office, alleging a prolonged inappropriate relationship. Davis was not only the girl’s coach but also a known family friend.

The child was later examined at Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Child Assessment Center and interviewed by authorities. She disclosed that Davis had initiated sexual acts about a year prior, inside his truck.

Following the investigation, Davis retained legal counsel and chose to plead guilty, accepting a lengthy prison term to avoid trial.

This case coincides with Ohio’s new anti-grooming law, enacted on April 9, 2025, making grooming behaviors toward minors a criminal offense. For parental guidance on protecting children, visit the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
