Christoph Tilly Leads Ohio State to Record-Setting 118-102 Season Opener Win Against IU Indianapolis
The Ohio State Buckeyes tipped off their 2025 basketball season with a powerful statement, defeating IU Indianapolis 118-102 in a record-breaking home opener on Monday night.
Making his Ohio State debut, senior transfer Christoph Tilly shined with 28 points and nine rebounds, going 9-of-11 from the field. The 7-foot standout from Berlin, formerly at Santa Clara, showcased efficiency and dominance on both ends of the court.
Returning stars Bruce Thornton, Devin Royal, and John Mobley Jr. added to the scoring surge with 26, 22, and 16 points, respectively. Mobley also dished out eight assists, helping the Buckeyes maintain offensive rhythm throughout the game.
The Buckeyes sealed their record-setting night by sinking 8 of 10 free throws in the final two and a half minutes, surpassing the previous school scoring record of 116 points. Ohio State now improves to 78-1 all-time when reaching 100 points or more.
Ohio State dominated early, putting up 66 points in the first half. Royal led the first-half charge with 19 points as the Buckeyes shot an impressive 67%, including 16-of-18 on two-point attempts. They closed the game shooting 63% overall.
For IU Indianapolis, Kameron Tinsley led the team with 22 points, while Kyler D’Augustino added 21 points before fouling out in the final minute. This season marks a new chapter for the Jaguars, as all 11 active players are newcomers under first-year Division I head coach Ben Howlett.
The Buckeyes are led by Jake Diebler, now in his second full season as head coach. After a 17-15 record last year and no postseason appearance, this commanding victory signals a promising start for Ohio State basketball.
