Ohio Mayor Resigns Amid Voyeurism and Vehicular Assault Charges

Wesley Dingus, mayor of the Village of Butler in Richland County, Ohio, has resigned amid allegations of voyeurism and pending charges in a separate vehicular assault case.

The allegations of voyeurism involve a teenager who reportedly captured video of Dingus handling and smelling her personal items in January. Following the complaint, Dingus was charged with two counts of voyeurism, pleaded not guilty, and was released on a $10,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 9.

In a separate incident last July, Dingus allegedly struck a pedestrian with his vehicle. He faces charges including aggravated assault, vehicular assault, falsification, and dereliction of duty. He pleaded not guilty and was released on a $25,000 bond, awaiting further court proceedings.

Dingus submitted a handwritten resignation letter stating he was resigning โ€œunder duressโ€ and effective immediately. He began serving as mayor in 2022 and was reelected in 2023.

Rich Thran, the Village of Butler council president, will serve as interim mayor through the end of the term in December 2027. The village has declined further comment due to the ongoing investigations.
