In a swift turnaround, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has resumed accepting all inbound mail and packages from China and Hong Kong, just a day after announcing a suspension.
USPS: Why the Quick Reversal?
The initial suspension was linked to new U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports, which also impacted the “de minimis” loophole—a policy that previously allowed low-value packages to enter duty-free. However, the United States Postal Service and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are now collaborating to ensure minimal disruptions to package deliveries while implementing the new tariff collection process.
What’s Next?
- Tariffs Still Apply: While package deliveries continue, a 10% tariff on Chinese goods is now in effect, impacting shipping costs.
- Policy Adjustments Possible: With ongoing trade tensions, further updates or changes may still arise.
For now, businesses and consumers can continue shipping and receiving parcels from China and Hong Kong but should stay informed about potential cost implications.
