Columbus Man Arrested After Woman and Child Found Dead in East Columbus Home
Police in Columbus have arrested a 35-year-old man accused of killing a woman and a young girl inside a residence in east Columbus on Wednesday evening.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, Derrick Green was taken into custody by SWAT officers without incident and is facing murder charges in connection with the deaths.
Officers responded to a home located in the 2000 block of Chatsworth Way around 7:15 p.m. after receiving a request for a welfare check involving 33-year-old Shalimar Green and 11-year-old Aliv’eyah Chandler.
Before police arrived at the scene, a family member reportedly entered the home and discovered the victims unresponsive. Emergency medics later pronounced both individuals dead at the residence.
Court records from Franklin County Municipal Court indicate that the victims, believed to be mother and daughter, suffered both gunshot and stab wounds. Investigators recovered several pieces of evidence inside the home, including spent shell casings, a blood-covered knife, and clothing stained with blood.
Authorities said Derrick Green had already left the property before officers arrived.
Investigators also reported that a white 2011 Ford Explorer was missing from the home, while a red 2012 Dodge Challenger registered to Green was parked outside the residence.
Detectives later learned Green had allegedly been sleeping in the Challenger. Court documents state that .380 caliber ammunition was visible inside the vehicle and matched shell casings recovered from the crime scene.
Police said the investigation revealed an ongoing domestic dispute between Shalimar Green and Derrick Green, who were married and reportedly in the process of separating.
According to court filings, Shalimar confronted Green the day before the incident after seeing him asleep on the couch with a knife in his possession and questioned why he was carrying it.
