Columbus Police to Boost Security in the Short North Area This Summer

Columbus, Ohio – As the summer season draws near, Columbus Police are making sure the Short North area remains safe and secure with heightened security measures. With the arrival of bustling events such as the annual Hops on High festival, which attracts thousands of visitors, local law enforcement is taking proactive steps to ensure public safety.

The Columbus Division of Police has announced plans to increase its presence across the Short North, using a combination of bike patrols, motorcycles, and cruiser units. This added security will be particularly visible during major events, where thousands of visitors will flock to enjoy live music, local vendors, and vibrant outdoor activities.

“We want to make sure everyone feels safe as they enjoy the many events and attractions in the Short North this summer,” said Mayor Andrew Ginther. “Expect to see an increased police presence, advanced lighting systems, and additional surveillance cameras throughout the area.”

Police Chief Elaine Bryant emphasized that the department will be utilizing intelligence-gathering strategies to monitor potential risks, particularly during the evening when the district can become more crowded. Officers will be ready to respond quickly to any issues that may arise, ensuring both residents and visitors are safe.

Many locals have expressed their appreciation for the increased focus on security. “During the day, I feel safe, but it can get a little sketchy at night,” said Will Pischel, a Short North resident. “I’m glad the police are taking action to improve safety.”

Keiandra Clark Mielke, who has lived in the area for five years, shared similar sentiments. “When it gets late, it can feel a little intimidating. I’m relieved to know the police will be around more often at night,” she said.

With these enhanced security efforts, the Short North Arts District is ready to host a vibrant summer of events, while also ensuring the safety of all who visit.
