Democrat Mikie Sherrill Wins New Jersey Governor’s Race
Democrat Mikie Sherrill has been declared the winner of the New Jersey gubernatorial election, according to multiple projections. Her victory marks a major moment for Democrats, following a closely watched and highly competitive race against Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli.
Celebrating her win, Sherrill told supporters,
“We in New Jersey are committed to building a better future for our children. Liberty matters and none of us are truly safe when our neighbors are targeted and our Constitution is ignored.”
Sherrill, a former congresswoman and Navy veteran, defeated Ciattarelli and his running mate James Gannon after a campaign that remained neck-and-neck through Election Day. Polls as late as October 30 showed Sherrill holding only a 1% lead, according to Nexstar’s WPIX.
In her campaign, Sherrill prioritized affordability, pledging to reduce costs for New Jersey residents by addressing housing, healthcare, and property taxes. She also promised to consolidate small school districts to help lower local tax burdens and reaffirmed her opposition to private prisons in the state.
