COTA BELIEVE Team Hosting Free Food Giveaway for Columbus Families

The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) is set to conclude its 2025 community outreach season with a major free produce giveaway on Wednesday, October 22, aimed at supporting families in need on Columbus’ South Side.

The BELIEVE Team, a resource group within COTA, will host the event starting at 3 p.m. at the Kroger grocery store, 3637 S. High Street, in the Great Southern Shopping Center, according to a COTA media release.

BELIEVE — short for Black Employees Leading in Inclusion, Excellence, Vision, and Education, is a team of COTA employees committed to helping local communities thrive through service, education, and inclusion.

The team will distribute free fruits and vegetables to families on a first-come, first-served basis. The produce is provided through partnerships with the Mid-Ohio Food Collective and Kroger.

Since launching in 2022, the BELIEVE Team has provided thousands of families across Central Ohio with nutritious food. COTA estimates that more than 8,000 pounds of produce will be distributed within a few hours during this event.

This will be COTA’s final produce stand for 2025, but more community food distribution events are already being planned for 2026 to continue addressing food insecurity in Columbus.

COTA says initiatives like these reflect their ongoing mission to empower, uplift, and nourish the communities they serve.
