President Donald Trump Considers Buying Argentinian Beef to Lower U.S. Meat Prices
President Donald Trump announced Sunday that the United States may begin purchasing beef from Argentina as part of his strategy to reduce high meat prices for American consumers.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One during a flight from Florida to Washington, Trump said,
“We would buy some beef from Argentina. If we do that, that will bring our beef prices down.”
Trump’s comments follow his recent pledge to tackle rising inflation, which has been driven in part by soaring beef prices across the country. Analysts attribute the price surge to prolonged drought conditions, higher feed costs, and reduced cattle imports from Mexico, where herds have been affected by a flesh-eating pest outbreak.
The president’s proposal could mark a significant step in strengthening trade relations with Argentina while easing domestic food costs. Reports indicate that Trump has also been working on a $20 billion credit swap line and additional financing support to help stabilize Argentina’s collapsing currency ahead of its midterm elections.
The economic plan aligns with Trump’s commitment to supporting his ally, Argentine President Javier Milei, as both leaders seek to reinforce ties between the two nations through mutually beneficial trade and financial initiatives.
