A new breakfast and lunch spot has opened in German Village, Columbus, Ohio, taking over the former building of long-running restaurant Skillet. The BeckFast Place, located at 410 E. Whittier St., officially welcomed customers late last month.
Founded and owned by Becker Nezballa, the restaurant operates Wednesday through Monday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. It currently focuses on quick breakfast options, including customizable breakfast burritos and bagel sandwiches, with early customer favorites including steak-and-egg and Baja burritos. Nezballa plans to expand the menu to include lunch items such as salads and wraps as operations continue to scale up.
Nezballa, a resident of nearby Merion Village, spent about four years searching for a location before securing the space. His goal was to create a menu centered on items convenient for grab-and-go ordering, while still offering seating for diners inside the restaurant.
The idea for the eatery was inspired by similar breakfast burrito and bagel spots Nezballa encountered while traveling out West. He previously gained food service experience working in restaurants, assisting with a local bagel food truck in Columbus, and helping at a cafe his mother ran for 12 years in Edinboro, Pennsylvania.
The Whittier Street building previously housed Skillet, a farm-to-table brunch destination that opened in 2009 and operated for 17 years before closing in February. Nezballa noted that local residents have been supportive of the new spot, welcoming another local choice for morning coffee and food.
