Missing 3-Year-Old Autistic Boy Found Dead in Retention Pond

A tragic incident unfolded in Etna Township, Licking County, Ohio, after a missing 3-year-old boy was found dead in a retention pond on Sunday, September 15, according to the Licking County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at around 1:35 p.m. to a call about the missing child near the 100 block of Gala Avenue off Lynns Road, south of U.S. Route 40. The boy, who was autistic and non-verbal, had last been seen in the Orchard Glen neighborhood.

Emergency crews, along with local residents, immediately launched a large-scale search. Despite their efforts, the 3-year-old boy was discovered in a retention pond at approximately 3:05 p.m.

Sheriff’s deputies attempted CPR before the child was rushed to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus by West Licking Joint Fire District medics. Sadly, he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities confirmed that the retention pond had been a primary focus of the search from the beginning. A victim advocate is now supporting the grieving family, while investigators continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
