Hundreds gather in Dublin Vigil for Charlie Kirk | Turning Point USA Founder Memorial
Dublin, Ohio – Hundreds of residents came together Sunday evening in Dublin, Ohio, to honor conservative leader Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, who was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University earlier this week.
The vigil overwhelmed the Coffman Park Pavilion, with attendees overflowing into adjacent parking areas and streets. Among those honoring Kirk were Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and State Senator Jon Husted.
At the gathering, families embraced, American flags fluttered, and the crowd joined in song and prayer for Kirk’s loved ones and the nation. Guests used phone lights to brighten the darkness. Speakers praised Kirk’s deep Christian convictions, his staunch defense of the First Amendment, and his commitment to engaging young people.
Senator Husted addressed the grief many feel: “I know young people are hurting and they want to understand why something like this could happen… There are some people with hate in their hearts… We can disagree and be passionate about it, but do it with respect and love.”
Charlie Kirk founded Turning Point USA to promote limited government and low taxes on college campuses. Though not immediately successful, his bold critiques of liberal academia won him backing from prominent conservative funders. After Donald Trump secured the GOP nomination in 2016, Turning Point strongly supported him. Kirk also worked closely with Donald Trump Jr. during the campaign. He became a frequent presence on cable news, engaging the culture wars with fervor, and often praising the Trump administration’s agenda.
