27-Year-Old Woman Killed in Head-On Crash on SR-682 in Athens
Athens, Ohio – A tragic head-on collision on State Route 682 in Athens Township claimed the life of a 27-year-old woman from Corning, Ohio, on Sunday morning.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), the crash occurred at approximately 9:18 a.m. near Wildwood Lanes. Monica Leigh Perani was driving a 2024 Nissan Sentra northwest when her vehicle was struck head-on by a 2016 Ram 1500 pickup truck that had crossed the center line.
Perani was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, a 69-year-old man from Athens, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities confirmed that both drivers were wearing seatbelts and alcohol is not suspected in the crash. The reason the pickup truck veered left of center remains under investigation.
Emergency personnel from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, Athens Police Department, Athens County EMS, The Plains and Athens Fire Departments, the Athens County Coroner’s Office, and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) responded to the scene.
