Ohio Launches Digital Liquor License System, Transforming How 28,000+ Businesses Manage Permits
Columbus, Ohio – Beginning Wednesday, June 4, the Ohio Division of Liquor Control will fully transition to a digital platform for managing liquor permits across the state. The new Ohio Permit and Licensing (OPAL) system is a game-changer, providing an all-online process for more than 28,000 businesses—including bars, restaurants, breweries, and distributors—as well as thousands of nonprofits that apply for temporary alcohol permits, especially in summer.
With OPAL, license holders can now apply, renew, transfer, and manage liquor permits online with 24/7 access. The state says this move will improve efficiency, transparency, and ease of access. After June 4, paper applications will no longer be accepted, making digital submissions mandatory.
