Trump Warns of 50% Tariffs on Countries Supplying Military Weapons to Iran

President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned that any country providing military weapons to Iran could face steep economic consequences, including a 50% tariff on goods exported to the United States.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the tariffs would apply immediately and without exceptions to any nation supporting Iran militarily.

The warning comes shortly after a tentative ceasefire agreement was reached between the United States and Iran. The deal, which includes a two-week window for finalization, is expected to take effect if Iran agrees to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The ceasefire follows heightened tensions, including recent threats from Trump, who had warned of severe consequences if an agreement was not reached. The breakthrough reportedly came after discussions involving Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir.

Trump announced the agreement shortly before a self-imposed deadline, stating that U.S. military objectives had been met and that progress toward a broader peace deal in the Middle East was underway.

However, details surrounding those objectives remain unclear, and questions persist about what conditions must be fulfilled to ensure a lasting resolution.

From the outset, Trump has maintained that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons is a top priority, though Iranian officials have not publicly confirmed alignment on that position.

According to Trump, Iran has submitted a 10-point proposal that he described as โ€œworkable.โ€ The proposal reportedly includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, security assurances against further attacks, lifting sanctions, and reducing regional conflict.

While Trump expressed optimism that most key issues have been resolved, he noted that the two-week period is intended to finalize the agreement.

The situation remains fluid as negotiations continue and both sides work toward a potential long-term settlement.
