A deadly multi-vehicle crash on I-270 Southwest near Georgesville Road in Columbus left 1 person dead and another critically injured early Monday. Police have taken a suspect into custody.
1 person is Dead after Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-270 Southwest in Columbus
1 person has died following a multi-vehicle crash in southwest Columbus early Monday morning.
According to authorities, the crash occurred at approximately 2:41 a.m. along Interstate 270 South near Georgesville Road. Officers responding to the scene confirmed that one individual was pronounced dead, while another was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Investigators with the Columbus Division of Police reported that the incident began as two adults were attempting to change a tire on a minivan parked on the left shoulder of the interstate. A separate sedan was positioned about 50 feet behind the minivan, with a woman seated inside.
At the same time, a driver operating an Audi A4 reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the roadway, collided with the rear of the sedan, and forced it into the minivan.
The driver of the sedan, identified as 45-year-old Jodi Tackett, was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the individuals assisting with the tire change was also struck during the crash and remains in critical condition.
Police say the Audi had been traveling in the wrong direction on the interstate before the driver corrected course shortly before the crash. Following the collision, the driver allegedly attempted to flee but was apprehended a short distance away on Georgesville Square Drive.
Interstate 270 South was shut down for several hours during the investigation and reopened around 7:15 a.m.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the suspect as the investigation remains ongoing.
