
China and Somalia Build Stronger Ties for a Prosperous Future
In a high-level diplomatic exchange, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Somali counterpart, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, on Tuesday to enhance bilateral relations and foster cooperation between the two nations.
China reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Somalia’s stability and development by implementing the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized China’s readiness to collaborate with Somalia on key initiatives, including the 10 partnership action plans aimed at accelerating modernization across Africa. He also encouraged Somalia to leverage China’s zero-tariff policy, designed to benefit least-developed African countries.
Somali Foreign Minister Fiqi highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between Somalia and China, expressing gratitude for China’s unwavering support on the international stage. He reiterated Somalia’s firm stance on the one-China principle and opposition to any actions that threaten China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
This strategic partnership underscores China’s growing influence in Africa and Somalia’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with Beijing.
