Governor Mike DeWine Signs Executive Order to Provide $25 Million SNAP Aid for Ohio Families

COLUMBUS, OH — Governor Mike DeWine has signed Executive Order 2025-06D, directing the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) to provide up to $25 million in emergency funding to support families expected to be most affected by the anticipated suspension of federal SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits.

DeWine announced the move on X on Thursday, emphasizing the state’s commitment to cushioning vulnerable households amid national budget gridlock.

“While it is no substitute for the relief U.S. Senate Democrats could provide today by ending their filibuster of SNAP benefits and approving the clean continuing resolution passed by the U.S. House, our plan will help get more resources into the household budgets of the Ohio families who need it most,” DeWine stated.

The Governor’s action follows increasing concerns over the potential federal funding lapse, which could leave thousands of low-income families across Ohio struggling to afford food and basic necessities.

The $25 million initiative is expected to be distributed through local agencies under ODJFS, prioritizing households that depend heavily on food assistance programs.

DeWine’s move comes amid growing political tension in Washington, where partisan divisions have stalled the renewal of federal funding bills directly impacting safety net programs such as SNAP.

State officials have yet to announce specific details on eligibility criteria or distribution timelines, but DeWine assured that Ohio is acting swiftly to minimize disruptions for families in need.

As the debate continues in the U.S. Senate, DeWine’s executive order reflects a state-level safety measure aimed at ensuring Ohioans have access to essential food resources, even in times of federal uncertainty.
