Honda's Ohio EV Hub – A Game-Changing 3-in-1 Auto Production Line
Honda Invests $1B in Ohio Auto Plants to Lead the Future of EV & Hybrid Manufacturing

Honda is revolutionizing auto manufacturing with a $1 billion investment to upgrade its Ohio EV Hub, positioning itself as a leader in the electric vehicle (EV) market. This strategic move will transform the Marysville Auto Plant (MAP), East Liberty Auto Plant (ELP), and Anna Engine Plant (AEP) into a state-of-the-art, flexible manufacturing system capable of producing internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) on the same production line.

Honda Expands EV Production in Ohio

Initially estimated at $700 million in 2022, Honda has expanded its investment to ensure a seamless transition to next-generation vehicle production without disrupting operations.

“We had to rethink how we integrate EV technology while maintaining our high standards for safety, quality, and efficiency,” said Tim Leopold, associate chief engineer at the Marysville Auto Plant.

Unlike other automakers building exclusive EV facilities, Honda’s innovative approach repurposes existing plants, speeding up market entry for EVs while keeping ICE and hybrid vehicle production steady.

Honda’s 3-in-1 production system allows the company to adapt to fluctuating consumer demand and market shifts, ensuring long-term stability.

“For us, flexibility is key,” said Mike Fischer, executive chief engineer at Honda Development and Manufacturing of America. “While other OEMs risk idling factories when EV demand slows, our strategy ensures continuous production—keeping our facilities operational, jobs secure, and costs competitive for customers.”

Honda in Ohio: What’s Coming First?

The first vehicle to roll off this advanced Ohio EV production line will be the all-new Acura RSX, set for late 2025. It will be followed by the Honda 0 SUV and Honda 0 Saloon prototypes.

Beyond vehicle production, Honda is partnering with LG Energy Solution on a $3.5 billion investment to build a cutting-edge EV battery plant in Jeffersonville, Ohio. Expected to create 2,200 new jobs, this facility will begin production in late 2025.

Additionally, Honda is adding 300 jobs across its Ohio auto plants, reinforcing its commitment to employment stability and workforce growth.

Honda’s Bold Sustainability Mission: “Triple Action to Zero”

As part of its commitment to a sustainable future, Honda is launching its “Triple Action to Zero” initiative, targeting zero environmental impact by 2050. This includes:

  • Carbon neutrality in vehicle production
  • Clean energy adoption for manufacturing
  • 100% resource circulation, reclaiming materials like aluminum, sheet metal, and tires for vehicle production

“This is a bold step toward zero virgin material use by 2050,” Fischer said. “We’re building the future by recycling and reinventing the past.”

With over 10,000 employees across its four Ohio plants, Honda is positioning itself as a leader in EV production, hybrid technology, and sustainable auto manufacturing. As the automotive industry evolves, Honda’s investment in flexibility, innovation, and sustainability ensures that Ohio remains at the heart of its next-generation vehicle strategy.
