Nonverbal Boy Found in Columbus Hilltop Neighborhood Safely Identified
A nonverbal boy discovered walking alone on Columbus’ West Side, Hilltop Neighborhood has been safely identified and is set to be reunited with his family, according to Franklin County Children Services.
Columbus police located the child around 1 a.m. on August 21 near the intersection of Demorest Road and Sullivant Avenue. Authorities immediately sought public assistance by sharing his photo with local media outlets.
Within just two hours, the boy was identified after several community members recognized him and reached out. His parents also contacted Franklin County Children Services directly after seeing the news reports.
“This is proof of the power of community support,” said Scott Varner, spokesman for Franklin County Children Services. “We are grateful to the many individuals who called in to help us reconnect this boy with his family.”
Caseworkers provided care for the child overnight, as he was unable to share his name or details about his home. Columbus City Schools also partnered with authorities during the search, playing a vital role in locating the boy’s family.
