Ohio State Launches 44th Annual Blood Battle Against Michigan
Columbus, Ohio — The rivalry between Ohio State University and the team up north has moved beyond the football field, as the 44th annual Blood Battle officially kicks off.
This friendly yet fierce competition challenges Buckeye and Wolverine fans to see which fan base can donate the most blood before November 26. The initiative not only fuels school spirit but also helps save thousands of lives across Ohio and Michigan.
The Versiti Blood Center of Ohio hosted a major blood drive at the Schottenstein Center, aiming to motivate a new generation of donors. Joe Gantz, Director of Donor Services and a former Buckeye, expressed his enthusiasm for the cause.
“Through all my five years playing at Ohio State, we never lost to that team up north. I am hoping to keep that tradition alive through Versiti,” Gantz said.
Over 50 blood drives are scheduled during the competition, including events at Ohio Stadium on November 4 and November 18.
Last year, Buckeye Nation collected more than 3,100 pints of blood — enough to potentially save over 9,000 lives. Organizers hope to exceed that number this year as the Buckeyes fight to defend their title for the fourth straight year.
