Ohio State’s offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly, is making a return to the NFL, this time joining the Las Vegas Raiders in the same role, according to reports from ESPN and the Associated Press.
Kelly, who spent just one season with the Buckeyes, previously served as UCLA’s head coach for six years. With an impressive 33-year coaching career, including 29 years in college football, he’s no stranger to the professional stage. His NFL experience includes a three-season stint as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and one season leading the San Francisco 49ers.
The Raiders, coming off a disappointing 4-13 season, are in the midst of a coaching overhaul. Recent hires include former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and John Glenn, former Washington Commanders assistant special teams coach, who will now serve as linebackers coach.
Kelly’s departure marks the third coaching exit for Ohio State this offseason. Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles recently accepted a role at Penn State, while offensive line coach Justin Frye is heading to the Arizona Cardinals.
With these coaching shifts, both Ohio State and the Raiders are entering new chapters, making Kelly’s return to the NFL one to watch.
