Columbus Man Dies After South Linden Stabbing, Suspect Faces Additional Charges

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A 62-year-old man has died following a stabbing incident that occurred late last month in the South Linden neighborhood of Columbus, authorities confirmed Thursday night.

The victim, identified as Charles Haynes, was found unresponsive on October 29 in the 900 block of East 20th Avenue with a stab wound to the chest, according to an affidavit from the Columbus Division of Police. Haynes was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, where doctors reportedly indicated he was unlikely to survive.

Police have since confirmed that Haynes succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night.

Suspect Arrested, Charges Pending

Sasha I. Townsend, 35, was arrested and initially charged with felonious assault in connection with the stabbing. Police said additional charges are expected to be filed following Haynes’ death.

According to court records, Townsend allegedly gave investigators conflicting accounts of what happened. An affidavit states she was captured on audio recordings from a nearby home saying, “I asked you to stop.”

During a search of the residence, detectives reportedly found knives in the kitchen sink “as if they were just being cleaned,” along with visible traces of blood.

Townsend appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court on October 31, where a $350,000 bond was set on the felonious assault charge. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Friday at 9 a.m.

Authorities have not yet announced upgraded charges, but the investigation remains ongoing.
