Governor Mike DeWine Appoints Andy Wilson as Ohio Attorney General
Mike DeWine has selected Andy Wilson to serve as Ohio’s next attorney general following the resignation of Dave Yost.
Wilson will officially assume the role on June 7 after Yost steps down from office. Speaking during a press conference at the Ohio Statehouse, Wilson said he plans to approach the position with urgency and determination.
“For the seven months that I am in there, we are going to go 100 miles per hour,” Wilson said.
During the press conference, Wilson was also asked whether he would pursue a retrial involving Chuck Jones and Mike Dowling. The two executives were charged by Yost’s office in connection to an alleged $4.3 million bribery scheme involving former Public Utilities Commission of Ohio chairman Sam Randazzo.
Wilson said he intends to review the case details and consult with the prosecution team before deciding on the next steps following the mistrial.
DeWine praised Wilson’s leadership and experience, noting that he has played major roles in the administration for more than seven years. Wilson has served as director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety since 2022, overseeing approximately 4,000 employees and a biennial budget of $2.5 billion.
Before joining the DeWine administration in 2019 as a criminal justice advisor, Wilson worked as an assistant prosecutor in Clark County, handling crimes against children cases. He later served as Clark County prosecutor.
Wilson also gained statewide attention for his role in the 2022 Pike County massacre trial involving George Wagner IV, where he assisted the prosecution team and delivered a key rebuttal during closing arguments.
As public safety director, Wilson was heavily involved in the response to the 2023 East Palestine train derailment, helping coordinate evacuations after dozens of train cars, including several carrying hazardous materials.
