A man was hospitalized after an early morning shooting in Columbus’ University District on Friday.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, medics with the Columbus Division of Fire were in the area on an unrelated call around 3 a.m. when they heard multiple gunshots along North High Street. Shortly after, a man who had been shot approached them for help.

Emergency crews transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Authorities said his injuries are not considered life-threatening, and he is expected to recover.

Police have not confirmed the exact location of the shooting, but investigators found multiple shell casings in the parking lot of a McDonald’s at 1972 N. High St., directly across from The Ohio State University campus.

No suspect information has been released at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Columbus Police Felony Assault Unit at 614-645-4141.
