President Donald Trump to Honor Charlie Kirk with Presidential Medal of Freedom

In a solemn announcement on Thursday, President Donald Trump stated that Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This comes just one day after Kirk was fatally shot during a public speech at Utah Valley University.

Speaking from the Pentagon during a 9/11 memorial ceremony, Trump opened his remarks by expressing grief over the loss of Kirk, who he described as a “champion of liberty” and “a giant of his generation.” Trump noted that the date of the official medal ceremony would be announced soon.

“Let me express the horror and grief so many Americans feel at the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk,” Trump said. “Charlie’s voice and mission will continue to resonate with millions.”

Vice President J.D. Vance visited Salt Lake City Thursday to offer condolences to Kirk’s family.

Kirk was shot in the neck during an event titled “The American Comeback Tour,” where he was addressing a large audience. The shocking incident has sparked national concern about political violence.

According to law enforcement, the suspect is believed to be of college age, and while surveillance footage exists, it has not yet been released to the public. Authorities also confirmed that a rifle believed to be the murder weapon has been recovered.

As the investigation continues, political leaders and citizens across the country are mourning the loss of a vocal figure in conservative politics.
