Firefighters respond to early morning blaze at townhome complex on Lakota Drive, Columbus, Ohio

17 Residents Displaced after Columbus Townhome Fire

A multiple-alarm fire broke out in the early morning hours of September 11 at a townhome complex on Lakota Drive in Columbus’ Northeast Side, displacing 12 adults, five children, and several pets.

The Columbus Division of Fire responded shortly before 2:00 a.m., sending multiple fire units to the eight-unit building located in the 5400 block of Lakota Drive. According to Battalion Chief Jeffrey Geitter, the fire caused significant damage to the roof and several other areas. It took firefighters approximately 45 minutes to contain the blaze.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Fire investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire.

The American Red Cross of Columbus is now assisting 15 residents from six of the units, providing emergency shelter, food, and other immediate relief services.
