COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best National Universities rankings have been released, with more than a dozen Ohio universities earning recognition. Notably, two institutions from the Buckeye State secured positions within the top 50 nationally.

Case Western Reserve University and The Ohio State University both tied for No. 44 in the national rankings. Case Western Reserve University was identified as Ohio’s highest-ranked private institution, while The Ohio State University, located here in Columbus, was recognized as the state’s top public institution.

Sixteen Ohio schools were included in the National Universities category by U.S. News & World Report. Following the top two, the University of Dayton ranked No. 121, and Miami University placed at No. 133. The University of Cincinnati was ranked No. 179, with Ohio University at No. 202.

Other Ohio universities listed include Ohio Northern University and Xavier University, both tying at No. 208. Kent State University ranked No. 236, Bowling Green State University at No. 276, and the University of Toledo at No. 299.

The University of Findlay came in at No. 332, followed by Cleveland State University and the University of Akron, which tied at No. 342. Youngstown State University ranked No. 353, and Wright State University was placed in the No. 382-422 range.

For its National Universities category, U.S. News & World Report evaluates institutions that offer a broad spectrum of undergraduate majors, alongside master’s and doctoral degrees, often with a significant focus on research. The 2027 rankings considered 17 distinct factors related to academic quality and student outcomes. Key metrics such as graduation rates, peer assessment, graduation rate performance, and financial resources collectively accounted for more than half of a school’s overall ranking.
