Columbus, Ohio Honors Tommy Pappas with Commemorative Street Sign Near Tommy’s Diner

Columbus, Ohio – Columbus is paying tribute to a beloved community figure, Anthanasios “Tommy” Pappas, with a commemorative street sign near his iconic establishment, Tommy’s Diner in the Franklinton neighborhood. Pappas, who passed away in December 2024, founded the diner over 35 years ago and became a cornerstone of the Columbus and Greek-American communities.

During a heartfelt ceremony on June 12, city officials, family members, and loyal patrons gathered near 914 W. Broad Street to unveil the new sign on a side street off Jones Avenue. Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and City Council President Shannon Hardin praised Pappas as a “true Columbus legend,” celebrating his immigrant journey from Greece and his lasting impact on the city’s culture, hospitality, and spirit.

Pappas’ sons, Louie and Michael, spoke emotionally about their father’s legacy, describing him as humble, authentic, and unaware of the profound influence he had. “If you told him they were naming a street after him, he would have said, ‘Why?’ And then maybe, ‘Why not West Broad Street?’” joked Michael.

This commemorative honor is more than a street sign—it’s a tribute to the enduring legacy of a man who helped shape Franklinton and the greater Columbus community through his passion, work ethic, and hospitality.
