Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has announced his resignation as the stateโ€™s top legal officer to take on a leadership role with Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a conservative Christian legal advocacy organization recognized for its involvement in major U.S. Supreme Court cases, including the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Yost confirmed on May 7 that he will step down from office and officially begin his new role at ADF on June 8. The organization also released a statement announcing that Yost will serve as vice president of strategic research and innovation.

In its announcement, ADF praised Yostโ€™s legal and public service background, highlighting his seven years as Ohioโ€™s 51st attorney general. The group described his tenure as one of the most active and influential among state attorney general offices nationwide.

Before becoming attorney general, Yost served two terms as Ohio Auditor of State, where he focused on uncovering corruption and identifying significant government cost savings. He also previously worked as Delaware Countyโ€™s elected prosecuting attorney and built a career in private legal practice.

Yost shared the news on his X account, where he commended Alliance Defending Freedom for its record before the U.S. Supreme Court and its role in high-profile constitutional and religious liberty cases.

His resignation marks a major political development in Ohio and is expected to spark discussion about the future leadership of the Ohio Attorney Generalโ€™s Office ahead of upcoming state political races.
