High wind warning for Central Ohio counties
The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for much of central Ohio, warning residents to prepare for strong winds that could reach gusts of up to 60 miles per hour.
According to the National Weather Service Wilmington Ohio office, the warning went into effect at 5 a.m. on March 13 and is expected to remain in place until 8 p.m.
The alert covers several counties, including Franklin County, Ohio, Delaware County, Ohio, Licking County, Ohio, Madison County, Ohio, and Union County, Ohio.
Forecasters say steady southwesterly winds between 25 and 35 mph are expected throughout the day, with stronger gusts potentially reaching 60 mph.
Officials warned that the powerful winds could knock down trees and power lines, sending loose outdoor items flying and potentially causing widespread power outages. Travel may also become difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles such as trucks and buses.
The warning follows a round of thunderstorms that moved through Columbus, Ohio and other parts of central Ohio earlier this week. Those storms prompted a tornado watch, wind advisory, and flash flood warnings in nearby counties.
