LaGuardia Airport: Two Pilots Dead After Air Canada Plane Hits Vehicle at LaGuardia Airport
Two people were killed after a regional jet operated by Air Canada Express collided with a ground vehicle at LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night, forcing a temporary airport shutdown.
The aircraft, a CRJ-900 arriving from Montreal, struck a Port Authority vehicle shortly before midnight while moving on the ground after landing.
Officials said the collision occurred at a relatively low speed, but the impact was severe. According to authorities, two pilots were killed in the incident.
More than 40 people including passengers, crew members, and emergency responders were taken to hospitals. Many have since been treated and released, though some individuals remain in serious condition.
Kathryn Garcia, executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, confirmed the fatalities and said notifications were being made to the victimsโ families.
Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene, and the airport was temporarily closed as officials secured the area and began an investigation.
Authorities are working to determine the cause of the collision.
