Trump Administration Deletes Jan 6 Prosecution Records from DOJ Websites
The Trump administration has removed a large number of online records related to prosecutions stemming from the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, including details of cases involving individuals accused of assaulting police officers. The move is being viewed as another step in President Donald Trumpโs broader effort to reshape public perception of the Capitol riot.
Several Justice Department press releases that previously documented guilty pleas, jury convictions, and prison sentences connected to the Jan. 6 investigations were taken down from official government websites last week.
In response to criticism, the Justice Department defended the decision through a social media statement, saying the agency was working to reverse what it described as the โweaponizationโ of the DOJ during the Biden administration. The department also stated that it intended to support individuals it claimed were unfairly targeted for political reasons, adding that the removal of the content was aimed at eliminating what it called โpartisan propagandaโ from DOJ platforms.
Many of the deleted records contained information about some of the most violent attacks against law enforcement officers during the Capitol breach.
The deletion of these records has sparked renewed debate over government transparency, historical preservation, and the ongoing political divide surrounding the events of January 6.
