Twin Girls of 16 rescued from a Vinton County home died

Newly obtained records have revealed that twin girls connected to the 16 children rescued from a Vinton County home died shortly after birth in 2022, adding another tragic chapter to one of Ohio’s most disturbing child abuse investigations.

According to records, the twin sistersโ€”identified as Bailey and Faith Siders were born prematurely on Nov. 20, 2022, but survived for only about an hour due to severe birth complications.

The girls were siblings of the 16 children authorities removed from a home in Hamden, Ohio, where investigators allege the children endured horrific living conditions and years of abuse.

Twin Sisters Died Shortly After Premature Birth

Birth and death records obtained show Bailey and Faith Siders were delivered at OhioHealth Riverside Hospital in Columbus at just 24 weeks of pregnancy.

Medical records indicate the twins were thoracopagus conjoined twins, meaning they were joined at the chest and upper abdomen while sharing several vital organs.

The official cause of death was listed as extreme prematurity, according to the records.

Medical experts note that thoracopagus twins face extremely low survival rates, particularly when separation surgery is not possible due to shared organs.

Investigation Uncovered 16 Children Living in Allegedly Horrific Conditions

The revelations come as Ohio authorities continue investigating allegations of severe child abuse involving four members of the Siders family.

On June 30, investigators with the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation executed a search warrant at a residence on Ohmer Street in Hamden, approximately 80 miles southeast of Columbus.

Inside the home, authorities discovered 16 children ranging in age from approximately 18 months to 18 years old.

Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson described the conditions inside the residence as “deplorable” and “horrific,” comparing the environment to that of a third-world country.

Officials said several children required immediate medical attention.

Seven Children Hospitalized

Following the rescue, seven of the children were transported to medical facilities in Columbus for treatment.

All 16 children have since been placed into the custody of Vinton County child welfare authorities as the criminal investigation continues.

Officials have not released additional details regarding the children’s current medical conditions.

Four Family Members Face Criminal Charges

Four members of the Siders family have been charged in connection with the investigation:

  • Christina Siders, 67
  • Gary Siders Sr., 73
  • Gary Siders Jr., 36
  • Elizabeth Siders, 33

Each defendant remains jailed on a $300,000 bond while the case moves through the Ohio court system.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed all of the criminal charges or whether additional charges could be filed as the investigation progresses.

Search Warrant Stemmed From Separate Investigation

Attorney General Andy Wilson said the search warrant that led investigators to the children was initially connected to an unrelated criminal investigation.

During the search, law enforcement officers uncovered evidence that prompted immediate intervention to remove the children from the home.

The discovery has since developed into one of Ohio’s most significant child abuse investigations in recent years.

Investigation Continues

Authorities continue gathering evidence as prosecutors build their case against the four defendants.

The rescued children remain under protective care while investigators work to determine the full extent of the alleged abuse and neglect.

The newly revealed records concerning Bailey and Faith Siders add another heartbreaking dimension to an investigation that has shocked communities across Ohio and drawn statewide attention.
