Whitehall Sets June 23 Recall Election for Mayor and Councilmembers
The future of three Whitehall city leaders will be determined during a special election scheduled for June 23.
On Tuesday, the Whitehall City Council officially approved the election date tied to the recall campaign against Mayor Michael Bivens and councilmembers Lori Elmore and Amy Harcar.
Harcar said residents have continued expressing strong concerns about the recall process, including the financial burden and its overall impact on the city.
Council approved the date without any objections.
Councilmember Gerald Dixon defended the recall effort, emphasizing that recalls are a constitutional right granted to citizens under the city charter and should not be viewed negatively.
This marks the second time council has selected a date for the special election. The process was restarted after the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that additional signatures were required before the recall could proceed. During the election, voters will decide whether each official should remain in office.
Elmore said she intends to continue serving the community regardless of the ongoing recall effort.
The June 23 date was recommended by the Franklin County Board of Elections. Elections Director Antone White explained the timeline provides enough time to properly manage administrative tasks, including early voting and absentee ballot operations.
