Venezuela Earthquake: Thousands of People Missing with Others feared dead
Rescue operations are underway across Venezuela after two powerful earthquakes caused widespread devastation, leaving thousands of people missing and many more feared dead.
Emergency responders are racing against time to locate survivors trapped beneath collapsed buildings and debris as search and rescue efforts continue across the affected regions.
Interim President Delcy Rodrรญguez has declared a nationwide state of emergency following the disaster, mobilizing emergency services and humanitarian support.
The twin earthquakes, measuring magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, struck just one minute apart. The second quake is the strongest to hit Venezuela since 1900, causing extensive damage across several regions.
The worst-affected areas include the capital, Caracas, and the state of La Guaira, where more than 100 large buildings reportedly collapsed. Rescue teams say they have heard people calling for help from beneath the rubble, offering hope that more survivors can still be found.
Venezuela’s main international airport in Maiquetรญa, located outside Caracas, has been closed after suffering significant structural damage, adding further challenges to rescue operations and aid delivery.
