Columbus Community Mourns Mother and Daughter Killed in Domestic Violence Tragedy
The east side of Columbus came together Thursday evening to remember a mother and daughter whose tragic deaths have deeply impacted the local community.
Friends, neighbors, classmates, and teachers gathered during a candlelight vigil to honor the lives of Shalimar Green and her 11-year-old daughter, Aliv’eyah Chandler, who were killed Wednesday night. The emotional memorial highlighted the love and support surrounding the family during this difficult time.
Aliv’eyah’s classmates shared touching memories of the young girl, describing her as caring, cheerful, and compassionate. One of her classmates, Rondaeo Marshall, said the community loved Aliv’eyah and was heartbroken by the tragedy.
According to police, the mother and daughter were found dead inside their home on Chatsworth Way after suffering stab and gunshot wounds. Authorities said the incident was linked to a domestic dispute. Derrick Green, Shalimar Green’s husband, was later arrested in connection with the killings.
Community member Addie Redd, whose son attended school with Aliv’eyah, organized the vigil to support grieving students and residents. She described the neighborhood as a close-knit community where everyone feels the impact when tragedy strikes.
Redd also remembered Aliv’eyah as a bright and positive child who brought joy to those around her. Classmates echoed those sentiments, saying she regularly checked on friends and made sure others felt supported whenever they were upset.
The heartbreaking incident has left many residents in east Columbus mourning the loss of two beloved community members while calling attention to the devastating effects of domestic violence.
