Country music icon Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80, her family announced on Tuesday. Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, shared the news through a video message posted across her official social media accounts.

Seaver, who served as Parton’s head of security for more than two decades, explained that the video announcement was a responsibility Parton had asked of him years ago. In his statement, Seaver reflected on his time working alongside his aunt in the security role previously held by his father, Larry. He praised Parton for opening doors for her family and helping them reach their potential, adding that while her loved ones mourn, she lived her life in the light and is now at peace.

No official cause of death was provided by the family. Parton had previously spoken publicly about health concerns, including bouts of dizziness and dehydration. Those issues led her to cancel a planned residency in Las Vegas and skip an event at her Dollywood theme park after medical professionals advised her against traveling.
