COLUMBUS, Ohio — The National Weather Service has confirmed four additional tornadoes in Ohio stemming from the severe weather that passed through the region on Aug. 11. The newly verified tornadoes caused structural damage, knocked down trees, and flipped a vehicle on Interstate 71.

In the Columbus, Ohio area, an EF0 tornado touched down in Upper Arlington just after 10 a.m. on Aug. 11. With winds reaching 80 miles per hour and a maximum width of 150 yards, the storm remained on the ground for approximately three minutes. Weather officials reported that the twister likely touched down near Kenny Road, crossed State Route 315, and dissipated near Beulah Road and East Weber Road. The tornado damaged several roofs and trees along its path and flipped a vehicle on Interstate 71.

At approximately the same time, an EF1 tornado struck the Olde Town East neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. Packing 90-mile-per-hour winds and spanning about 150 yards wide, the tornado stayed on the ground for roughly two minutes as it moved from downtown Columbus toward the west side of Bexley, Ohio. The storm caused structural damage to multiple buildings, brought down trees, and blew bricks off an apartment building near South Ohio Avenue and South Champion Avenue.

A third twister in central Ohio was identified in Plain City, located in Madison County, Ohio. Touching down around 9:50 a.m., the EF0 tornado recorded winds of about 80 miles per hour and a width of 100 yards. It started near Georgesville Road northeast, moving southeast for about two minutes and damaging crops and trees before breaking apart near Amity Pike. A fourth tornado from the storm system was confirmed in Hamilton County, Ohio.

Following these latest confirmations, Ohio has recorded 19 tornadoes during the month of August and 44 tornadoes so far this year. The state typically experiences an annual average of about 22 tornadoes.
