Ohio’s 2025 Sales Tax Holiday Expands to Two Weeks This August

Columbus, Ohio – Shoppers in Ohio can look forward to significant savings this summer as the state announces a two-week sales tax holiday running from August 1 to August 14, 2025. This extended holiday aims to ease the financial burden on families preparing for the back-to-school season and offer relief on a wider range of household purchases.

Governor Mike DeWine emphasized the broader impact, noting that this year’s Ohio sales tax break supports families not only with school supplies but with other essential items as well.

What’s Included in the 2025 Ohio Tax-Free Holiday?

During this tax-free period, eligible purchases under $500—whether bought in-store or online—will be exempt from sales tax. Items such as clothing, school supplies, electronics, and various household goods are included.

However, the tax holiday does not apply to:

  • Services
  • Motor vehicles
  • Watercraft and outboard motors
  • Alcohol, tobacco, vapor products, or marijuana

Shoppers can take advantage of this limited-time opportunity to stretch their budget and prepare for the upcoming school year.
