Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, has been named the second most beautiful college campus in the United States, according to a study conducted by SIXT, an international mobility service provider.

The study analyzed 150 colleges and universities across the nation, evaluating each location based on historic architecture, green space, walking paths, campus acreage, online reviews, search interest, and media appearances.

Representatives from SIXT noted that online searches for “quick road trip” jumped by 408%, driving interest in easily accessible destinations. Mobility experts highlighted the Columbus campus as an ideal getaway, noting its combination of historic architecture, expansive green lawns, and accessible walking routes.

The ranking used a weighted scoring system, with green spaces and buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places each contributing 25% toward the overall result. While the study found that Ohio State University had no buildings on the national historic register, the campus performed exceptionally well in green space, featuring 27 named quads and green areas. Indiana University Bloomington led this category with 31.

Pedestrian paths per 1,000 students accounted for 15% of the total score. Ohio State University ranked second overall in total walking path distance with 78 miles, trailing only the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, which had 81 miles.

Google reviews made up 20% of the score, where Ohio State University held a 4.5-star rating. Campus acreage per 1,000 students accounted for 10%, with the university registering 29 acres. Tour search volume contributed 3%, showing 4,790 searches for the school, while film and television appearances represented the remaining 2%.
