Congresswoman Joyce Beatty’s confirms her name was among those targeted by Minnesota shooting suspect

Columbus, Ohio โ€” Ohio Congresswoman Joyce Beatty has confirmed that her name appeared in documents associated with the Minnesota shooting suspect, Vance Boelter, who is charged with the fatal shootings of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as injuring State Senator John Hoffman and his wife.

Columbus, Ohio Honors Tommy Pappas with Commemorative Street Sign Near Tommyโ€™s Diner

Columbus, Ohio – Columbus is paying tribute to a beloved community figure, Anthanasios โ€œTommyโ€ Pappas, with a commemorative street sign near his iconic establishment, Tommyโ€™s Diner in the Franklinton neighborhood. Pappas, who passed away in December 2024, founded the diner over 35 years ago and became a cornerstone of the Columbus and Greek-American communities.

During a heartfelt ceremony on June 12, city officials, family members, and loyal patrons gathered near 914 W. Broad Street to unveil the new sign on a side street off Jones Avenue. Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and City Council President Shannon Hardin praised Pappas as a โ€œtrue Columbus legend,โ€ celebrating his immigrant journey from Greece and his lasting impact on the cityโ€™s culture, hospitality, and spirit.

Pappasโ€™ sons, Louie and Michael, spoke emotionally about their father’s legacy, describing him as humble, authentic, and unaware of the profound influence he had. โ€œIf you told him they were naming a street after him, he would have said, โ€˜Why?โ€™ And then maybe, โ€˜Why not West Broad Street?โ€™โ€ joked Michael.

This commemorative honor is more than a street signโ€”it’s a tribute to the enduring legacy of a man who helped shape Franklinton and the greater Columbus community through his passion, work ethic, and hospitality.

Tennessee Man Charged with Rape and Kidnapping in Grandview Heights, Ohio

A 31-year-old man from Chattanooga, Tennessee has been charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault and abduction of a 15-year-old girl at a hotel in Grandview Heights, Columbus, Ohio.

The Grandview Heights Division of Police responded to a report of a sexual assault at Nationwide Childrenโ€™s Hospital on May 4. The teenage victim informed authorities that the assault began on April 28 after she met the suspect, Davarus Delaney, at a hotel located in the 700 block of Yard Street. The pair had reportedly been communicating through social media for several months before the incident.

According to police, the girl was held against her will and sexually assaulted multiple times over two days. Delaney allegedly displayed a firearm, made verbal threats, and restricted the girlโ€™s movements. In a filed complaint, it was further alleged that he suffocated the victim using a pillow.

Following an investigation, Delaney was arrested on June 5 in Tennessee by the U.S. Marshals Task Force and Chattanooga Police. He was extradited to Franklin County, Ohio, on June 10. Authorities stated that Delaney admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the minor and was aware of her age.

He now faces multiple felony charges including two counts of rape and two counts of kidnapping. He remains in custody at the Franklin County Jail as the investigation continues, and more charges may follow.

The Grandview Heights Police Department urges anyone with further information to contact Detective Drew Brubaker at 614-488-7901.

Columbus Protesters Rally Against ICE Raids and Immigration Policies

Columbus, Ohio – Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in downtown Columbus on Tuesday night, marching in protest of the widespread ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) raids occurring nationwide. The peaceful protest, organized by local advocacy groups including the ANSWER Coalition and the Party for Socialism and Liberation, was a unified response to similar immigration crackdowns happening in California.

“We donโ€™t want to see the same injustices in Columbus that we are witnessing in Los Angeles,” said Deja Gaston, one of the protest leaders. “We are here to stand with immigrant families who are facing an alarming escalation of deportations under the Trump administration.”

Activists shared emotional stories, highlighting the human impact of immigration raids and policy changes. Organizers like Shenby G voiced concern over family separations and mass deportations. โ€œItโ€™s heartbreaking to watch families being torn apart. Children should not be deported or taken from their parents,โ€ she said.

While Republican leaders, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, have praised the administrationโ€™s immigration enforcement efforts, demonstrators in Columbus criticized the administration for promoting fear and inequality. โ€œPolicies benefiting the wealthy are being passed, while essential public services are being defunded,โ€ Gaston added.

As the protest ended, participants promised continued resistance. โ€œWe refuse to be divided by fear and racism,โ€ said Shenby G. โ€œThis movement will only grow stronger.โ€

Fake Pills in Ohio: DEA Warns Ohio Youths

Columbus, Ohio – Despite a recent decrease in drug overdose fatalities in Ohio, law enforcement officials are issuing a critical warning to parents, educators, and teenagers. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), a surge in counterfeit pills laced with Carfentanil โ€” a dangerously potent synthetic opioid โ€” is creating a silent but deadly epidemic, especially in Columbus and surrounding areas.

Carfentanil, which is 100 times stronger than fentanyl and used to tranquilize elephants, is now being found in pills disguised as common medications like oxycodone and Adderall. These fakes are almost impossible to detect without lab testing and have already led to several fatal incidents.

โ€œWe have seized multiple ounces just this year, and what is scarier is what we havenโ€™t found,โ€ said Assistant Special Agent Brian Mulcahy of the DEA Columbus division. โ€œA speck the size of a pencil tip can be enough to kill someone.โ€

The DEA is continuing its “One Pill Can Kill” campaign, encouraging parents to talk openly with their children about the risks of taking any pill that doesnโ€™t come directly from a licensed medical professional.

Law enforcement also notes an alarming rise in youth experimentation driven by peer pressure and social media trends, adding urgency to these conversations. The potential for a single, fake pill to end a life has never been higher.

Columbus Councilmember Barroso de Padilla Condemns ICE Raids, promises to protest

Columbus, Ohio – Amid national unrest over Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations, Columbus City Councilmember Lourdes Barroso de Padilla publicly denounced the federal government’s aggressive immigration policies during a City Council meeting held on June 9.

Wearing a T-shirt that read โ€œDaughter of Immigrants,โ€ Barroso de Padillaโ€”who is a first-generation Cuban-American born in Columbusโ€”used her platform to express solidarity with peaceful protesters in Los Angeles rallying against recent ICE raids.

โ€œI stand with the courageous individuals raising their voices in protest against the cruel and unjust tactics used by ICE,โ€ she stated from the dais.

Barroso de Padilla revealed to The Columbus Dispatch that she plans to join a protest on June 10 at Columbus City Hall, organized by several pro-immigrant groups such as Ohio Immigrant Alliance, Party for Socialism and Liberation Columbus, and the La Raza Movement.

โ€œThese protests reflect widespread frustration over harsh immigration enforcement policies that tear families apart,โ€ she said. โ€œNow is the time for local and national leaders to advocate for compassionate, community-centered immigration reform.โ€

Barroso de Padilla also criticized the federal overreach under former President Donald Trumpโ€™s administration, emphasizing the need to invest in immigrant communities rather than criminalize them.
