
2 Dead in Columbus Crash Involving COTA Bus at Sunbury and Mock Roads
COLUMBUS, Ohio โ 2 people lost their lives following a fatal collision involving a Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) bus early Saturday morning in northeast Columbus.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, the crash occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Sunbury Road and Mock Road.
Investigators said the COTA bus was traveling eastbound on Mock Road and was making a left turn onto Sunbury Road with a green traffic signal when a black Audi Q5 traveling southbound on Sunbury Road entered the intersection and struck the bus.
The driver of the Audi and the front-seat passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released their identities pending notification of their families.
Emergency crews transported the COTA bus driver to Grant Medical Center, where officials said the driver was in stable condition. The bus’s only passenger was evaluated and treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly crash. It remains unclear what caused the Audi to enter the intersection at the time of the collision.
